Bad Suns have spent the past decade chasing light while wrestling with shadow, and their latest album Accelerator shows them closing the gap. On September 29, they’ll bring their Accelerator tour to the historic 9:30 Club, a stage that has shaped the trajectory of countless touring acts.

The Los Angeles band first took off with “Cardiac Arrest” in 2014, introducing them as indie-pop naturals, pairing glossy production with hooks built for radio. Since then, Christo Bowman, Gavin Bennett, and Miles Morris have continued developing their sound while honing the songwriting that first drew attention. When longtime guitarist Ray Libby departed, the band had to reconsider what Bad Suns could be as a trio.

Accelerator answers that question with the most cohesive set of songs they’ve delivered in years. Released on August 8, the album finds Bowman writing with new urgency, shaped by sobriety and the prospect of fatherhood.

According to a press release from Epitaph Records, he explained,

“I didn’t want this record to be too self-help-oriented, but I did want every song, one way or another, to relate some wisdom I’ve gained.

The album’s 12 tracks reflect that mindset, giving Accelerator a backbone that is upbeat on the surface but grounded in lessons learned from the past decade.

The album moves confidently between upbeat, synth-driven tracks and more reflective moments, balancing energetic hooks with thoughtful lyrics about self-discovery and relationships. Singles like “Communicating” and “Mystery Girl” show the band’s knack for catchy melodies, while songs like “Why Am I Like This?” and “Postcard” reveal a more introspective side, pairing warm guitars with lyrics about insecurity and growth.

Bowman’s vocals carry both charm and honesty, which fans hope to experience live and in-person as Bad Suns hit the road in just a month's time. Their upcoming tour, joined by Little Image and The Ramona Flowers, is built around intimate venues where a mix of immediacy and introspection can land with full force.

This feeld like the right time for such a record, and the 9:30 Club certainly feels like the right place to experience it.
