Colony House to headline 9:30 Club with reflective new album, 77

Colony House is taking their fifth album, 77, on the road, and Washington, D.C. will get its turn when the band headlines the 9:30 Club on October 11.

The Chapman brothers, Caleb and Will, alongside Scott Mills and Parke Cottrell, first broke through with When I Was Younger in 2014. Tracks like “Silhouettes” and "Moving Forward" introduced the band as indie rockers who could balance earnestness with energy. Since then, they've built one of the most quietly consistent catalogs in modern indie-rock.
A lot has happened since those early days. Four albums, countless tours, and even launching their own wine club have brought them to 77: an album that feels like a reflection on where they have been and where they are going. The record is slower in places, less frantic, yet no less powerful.
77 draws from the aesthetics of ‘90s and early-2000s rock while also feeling fresh. The album's title track stretches out at a deliberate 77 beats per minute, forcing the band—and the listener—to sit with it rather than rush through. The result is a record that sounds like four friends in a room, working out what it means to keep going.
That’s always been the appeal of Colony House. They write about life as it’s actually lived, where faith is complicated and the victories don’t always look like you imagined. Happy Landing will open the night with their bright, harmony-driven set before Colony House takes the stage and puts their new material to the test in one of the country’s best listening rooms.
