From burnout to breakthrough: Flipturn drops new album ahead of tour

Indie rock band flipturn will bring their unique sound to Washington, D.C. on April 12, 2025, with a performance at The Anthem. Known for their blend of atmospheric indie rock and raw, rhythmic moments, flipturn has earned a reputation as one of the most vibrant acts on the road today.

Formed as a college band at the University of Florida, flipturn's steady rise through the indie music scene culminated with the release of their debut album, Shadowglow, in 2022. With festival appearances at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Governor’s Ball, flipturn quickly rose in the ranks of must-see indie acts. However, their journey hasn't come without challenges. After two years of non-stop touring, the band took time off to recharge and gather inspiration for their follow-up album Burnout Days.
Released on January 24, Burnout Days represents a departure from the pace of their earlier work. The album explores the tension between endurance and exhaustion, with themes like burnout, toxic positivity, and the struggle to balance personal life and career.
According to The Anthem's website, lead singer Dillon Basse said the following to describe how the album was born from burnout:
"Burnouts can happen whenever you're so passionate about something that you throw yourself into it one hundred percent. That can happen whenever you push yourself too hard, and this record is about being OK with it, and finding ways to cope with it. We love what we do. These songs are stories about the side effects."
Songs like “Juno,” “Rodeo Clown,” and “Sunlight” offer a glimpse into the emotional depth of the album, with each track providing an honest reflection of the band's growth and experiences. As flipturn continues to tour in support of Burnout Days, they’ll showcase their largest rooms yet, with upcoming shows at iconic venues like The Novo in Los Angeles and Terminal 5 in New York.
Their D.C. show at The Anthem is part of the band's national tour, which also includes a return to Bonnaroo in June. With a reputation for delivering high-energy, yet cathartic live shows, flipturn is sure to put on a performance that captures the band's renewed energy of Burnout Days.
