Virginia-born, Appalachian trio Palmyra is hitting the road to support the release of their debut album Restless, and they'll bring their blend of heart-on-sleeve folk and indie rock to DC9 on April 29, 2025. The band, formed during their time at James Madison University, had spent the past few years developing various singles, EPs, and countless unreleased songs.
Similar sounds: The Avett Brothers, Bon Iver, Vampire Weekend

Released on March 28, Restless captures a raw and intimate look into the band's journey through personal trials, growth, and acceptance. With tracks like “Shape I’m In” and “Arizona,” Palmyra delves into themes of identity, mental health, and the search for belonging. Their unique sound—infused with their Appalachian roots—offers a brutally honest and cathartic experience for listeners.
Being the brainchild of three songwriter-instrumentalists—Manoa Bell, Teddy Chipouras, and Sasha Landon—Palmyra is known across East Coast audiences for their dynamic live shows, showcasing a discography that ranges from tender moments to fiery, dark anthems. As they embark on their headline tour, Restless provides a backdrop to the band’s ever-evolving story, one that blends personal reflection with universal experiences of inner turmoil and self-acceptance.
According to a press release, Chipouras described the new album as a peek into the band's life on the road:
"We’ve gone through a lot of changes, the three of us as individuals and also as a band: Moving, shifting careers, ending relationships & beginning new ones, trying our best to navigate the existing ones while also navigating life on the road, coming home. Each song is a glimpse into these moments. This record is about being on the edge of burning out, and the little moments that make it all worth it."
