Acclaimed indie-folk band The Head and The Heart will release their sixth studio album, Aperture, on Friday, May 9. The album follows the band's 2022 LP Every Shade of Blue and arrives just ahead of a summer tour that includes a stop on June 7, 2025 at The Fillmore Silver Spring.

To date, the group's has released four singles off the album, each offering a compelling glimpse into what’s ahead. The tracks span the band's versatility from their collaboration with Mt. Joy on "Arrow," an anthem on having confidence in uncertainty, to "After The Setting Sun," an ode to the loss of a loved one. The latter's raw, home-video style music video mirrors the album’s themes of emotional unrest and the quiet beauty found on the other side of struggle.
Their latest single, "Blue Ember," and has already garnered more than half a million streams on Spotify in just under a month. In a press release, frontman Matt Gervais reflects on the themes that gave Aperture its spark—and ultimately its name.
"For me, Aperture represents the choice we all must make between resigning ourselves to darkness, or letting the light in and recognizing our own agency to do so. It feels relevant to the times, in that we’re literally choosing between authoritarianism vs. democracy... It’s about choosing hope again and again, no matter how many times it may feel that you have lost it."
Aperture represents a significant creative reset for the band. It’s their first self-produced album since their 2011 debut, recorded across their twin home bases of Seattle and Richmond. After releasing three albums on Warner Records, the group parted ways with the major label and returned to their DIY roots, producing Aperture themselves and tapping into a renewed energy that had gone dormant during years of touring and studio polish.
The band will support the album with an expansive North American tour beginning May 30. Every ticket sold will include a $1 donation to their Rivers and Roads Foundation, which supports equitable access to music education and mental health resources for musicians in the Seattle area.
