Multi-platinum R&B star Khalid and pop hitmaker Lauv have just released their first-collaborative track, "Tied Up." And for fans in the DMV, you won't have to wait long to hear it live.
The two artists are bringing their It's Always Summer Somewhere Tour to The Anthem in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, May 31 at 7:30 PM.
"Tied Up" is about the emotional trap of a love that isn't quite working: the push and pull of staying invested in something that keeps letting you down. It's well-trodden territory, but Khalid and Lauv are exactly the right two people to explore it.
The song opens with both artists sharing the hook that sets the scene: I put my best shirt on for you / But it doesn't even matter / Am I enough for you, my dear? / As I fall into your pattern. The two trade verses throughout the song, and their voices seem to a natural middle ground between Khalid's warm R&B and Lauv's vulnerable indie-pop.
This is the first time Khalid and Lauv have collaborated, with the track being co-written by both artists alongside Michael Matosic. Lauv didn't hide his enthusiasm:
Khalid and I have been wanting to make a song together for a long time. We finally got in with some homies and had a great time. He's one of the most talented singers of all time, and such a sick writer and performer.
The It's Always Summer Somewhere Tour is a true co-headlining run with both artists perform full sets, giving fans two complete concert experiences in one night. It marks Khalid's first major tour in approximately six years, making it a much anticipated return to the stage.
Staying perfectly true to its name, the It's Always Summer Somewhere Tour is poised to be the ultimate soundtrack to kick off the warm weather season in the nation's capital.
